Carbon Footprint

A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide.

As a company we have reviewed our production practices and assessed our carbon output. As a result of our initial review we have set ourselves continual goals in order to reduce our carbon footprint and increase opportunities for the use of carbon offsets. As a farming organisation, one of our key carbon offsets is the growing of fresh produce.

We aim to reduce our carbon footprint by applying the following principals:

  • Carbon assessments to be continually reviewed to accurately determine our current carbon footprint
  • Identification of hot-spots in terms of energy consumption and associated CO2 emissions
  • Optimisation of energy efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions contributed from our production processes
  • Identification of solutions to neutralise the CO2 emissions that cannot be eliminated by energy saving measures.
  • Utilisation of industry expertise for company requirements and education of staff i.e. Carbon Trust

Waste management is an important issue on the site and with the continual development of producer responsibility legislation, we have implemented many changes to our working practices. We have adopted recycling strategies to meet these challenges, and we will continue to improve on them.
