More about our Sprouts

  • Sprouts were first grown by Ancient Romans and then grown in Belgium from the 13th century which is what gave them their name. The earliest reference in English to Brussels Sprouts dates back to 1796.
  • Britons eat more Brussels Sprouts per head than anyone else in Europe.
  • The area covered by Sprout fields in the UK is equal to 3240 football pitches.
  • Brussels Sprouts contain 192% of your recommended daily allowance of Vitamin C - that's more than an orange!
  • Over boiling/steaming Sprouts makes them smell like rotten eggs due to containing high levels of Sulforaphane. However, roasted, sauteed or grilled Sprouts can taste sweet, nutty and delicious.
