Favourable February

Date Added: 10/02/2022

February, the last meteorological month of Winter and the month of love is already here.
Although we are loving the favourable weather right now, we are mindful that we may well be just in the “Fool’s Spring” period that comes just before “Second Winter”.

The year began with the UK having the warmest New Years Day on record as London’s St James Park reached 16.3c.
Also the Met office has confirmed it was the sunniest January in England on record with a total of 80.7 hours. It’s also been a dry January too, as the total rainfall for England and Wales in total for January 2022 was 40% lower than the average.

Over the past week or so we’ve seen quite a few windy days with wind speeds just under 50mph, which will help the land to dry out ready for planting new season crops – which will only be a few weeks away - weather depending!

Our engineers are busy maintaining and preparing machinery ready to ensure the 2022 planting season gets off to a good start.

In the next few weeks Purple Sprouting Broccoli will entering its natural UK season. Until then it’s currently coming from our Spanish contingency.
Purple Sprouting Broccoli is a more colourful alternative to Tenderstem Broccoli and is incredibly versatile, working well in Stir-Fries, Pasta dishes and just as a side dish to many meals.

Valentines’ day, or St Valentine’s Day, is celebrated every year on 14th February and even if you are not usually the romantic type, it serves as a reminder to people across the world to show their affection to their partner.

With Restaurants now open many may be opting to treat their Valentine to a romantic meal at their favourite restaurant however following on from Covid many have sharpened up their cooking skills and may now opt to impress and pour their love into a homecooked meal for their partner.

If you’re planning to cook for your loved one at home on Valentine’s Day, why not try a few alternative side dishes to pair with the romantic and traditional Steak dinner which is favoured by many.
A rich Steak goes incredibly well creamy and indulgent Potato Dauphinoise and for a bit of colour sweet earthy steamed PSB (Purple Sprouting Broccoli) or even wilted Spring Greens.

To really impress your Valentine, don’t forget to add candlelight, some music, and a glass or two of their favourite red wine or other preferred tipple, then end the evening on a sweet note with an indulgent dessert – something chocolaty is a hit with many!
